The movement of all types of bulkheads will completely be halted 11 days before and after Eid-ul-Azha to ensure hassle-free river journey for holidaymakers.
The decision was taken at a meeting on vessel movement and passenger safety on waterways on the occasion of the upcoming Eid-ul-Azha at the Ministry of Shipping on Thursday.
As per the meeting decision, the movement of all types of bulkheads will be suspended from 11 June to 23 June on the country’s waterways.
State Minister for Shipping Khalid Mahmud Chowdhury presided over the meeting.
He said, “The river journey during the last Eid-ul-Fitr was safe as people were able to safely return their homes using river routes. Measures have been taken so the homebound people can safely reach their destination during the upcoming Eid as well.”
“We all are working together to ensure the safe transportation of homebound passengers as well as sacrificial animals on waterways during the upcoming festival,” he added.
According to the meeting decision, the ferries will transport only trucks and covered vans carrying sacrificial animals and perishable goods in seven days before and after Eid-ul-Azha, including the festival day.
Vehicles carrying nonperishable items will not be allowed on ferries during this time
