Two ‘KNF members’ killed in joint forces drive in Bandarban

Two suspected members of armed separatist group Kuki-Chin National Front (KNF) were killed in joint forces drive at Sadar upazila in Bandarban district on Thursday.
The deceased were identified as Lal Nu Bawm, 22, of Sharonpara, and Thang Pui Bawm, 14, of Bethanipara in village Suwalok under the upazila.
Confirming the matter to the Daily Sun, Additional Superintendent of Police (Addl SP – Administration and Finance) Hossain Md Raihan Kazemi of Bandarban district police said the duo was killed during a drive of joint forces at Sharonpara in village Suwalok under the upazila on Thursday morning.
The bodies were recovered from the spot and were sent to Bandarban Sadar Hospital morgue, he added.
Mentionable, in the series of attacks, KNF members stormed the Ruma branch of Sonali Bank on April 2, kidnapping the manager and looting firearms and ammunition from the police and ansar on duty.
The following afternoon, they robbed the Thanchi branches of Sonali Bank and Krishi Bank, looting approximately Tk18 lakh in broad daylight.
The bank manager was reportedly released on April 4 evening, two days after being abducted, following a ransom payment of Tk15 lakh.
Meanwhile, the terrorist group also launched attacks on the Thanchi police station, BGB camp, and upazila parishad on that time, resulting in a massive gunfight between the police and BGB.
Police filed some nine cases in these connections.
