Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) reserved seat ward councilor Syeda Roksana Islam Chameli has been suspended for beating his fellow Farid Uddin Ahmed Ratan.

The local government division issued the order on Thursday.

It said that a complaint regarding the indecent and rude behaviour of the DSCC reserved seat councilor (Ward No. 13, 19, and 20) in the corporation meeting disrupted the proceedings of the meeting and tarnished the image of DSCC was received.

She was suspended temporarily from his post according to sub-section (1) of Section 12 of the Local Government (City Corporation) Act, 2009.

On April 22, a video of a private moment between councilor Chameli and a young man went viral on social media. Following the incident on 24 April, the Awami League expelled him from the membership of the Dhaka Metropolitan South unit of the Awami League.

Incidentally, in the board meeting of the DSCC at Nagar Bhaban, Chameli beat councilor Farid Uddin Ahmed Ratan with her shoes in a meeting of the corporation, which was presided over by Mayor Sheikh Fazle Noor Taposh, on 20 May.

A section of DSCC councilors said that it is believed that Ratan may be behind the publication of the video of Chameli, which may have instigated her.
