Bangladesh’s batting coach David Hemp feels that young sensation Tawhid Hridoy is reaping the rewards of having multiple options against the same ball as it puts the bowlers under pressure.

Hridoy is expected to be an integral part of Bangladesh’s batting unit during their forthcoming international campaign that will begin with a three-match T20I series against the USA in their own backyard followed by the ICC T20I World Cup, scheduled in the USA and West Indies in June.

While Bangladeshi batters failed to perform consistently against the Zimbabweans in the just concluded five-match T20I series at home, the only exceptions were Tanzid Hasan Tamim (160 runs) and Hridoy (140 runs).

Hridoy played some explosive innings during the series to have a nice warm-up for the upcoming international fixtures and according to their batting coach Hemp, it is just the beginning considering he feels the training method followed by the right-handed batsman as he is quite clear what he is working on.

“For me, personally I track it back to how he is training. Really clear with what he is working on having different options for the same ball you know he got two or three options for the same ball that’s bowled and I think he has been really clear with how he is going about that and having the discipline to stick with that and that what he is doing,” said Hemp.

“Again, I would track it back to the preparations phase and if you assess him with the preparation phase and if you assess him with that preparation and what happens, you are gaining confidence from that preparation and then you take that into the game situation and that’s what he did really well and hopefully that continues,” he said.

Hemp added that having different options for the same ball puts bowlers under pressure.

“How does it help (having different options for the same ball)? It puts the bowlers under pressure as the bowlers know that whatever ball he is bowling…the bowler might think I can bowl a wide yorker. Take Hridoy for example he can get inside and ramp that he can also stay on the leg side of the ball and put his hand to the ball quickly and hit it hard to point for four. But also, he can run the ball of the full face to third man so there are three different options for the same ball and I think when the bowlers run in knowing that and his ability to execute those types of shots, they are under pressure because they can’t miss,” he concluded.
