Bangladesh Film Censor Board (BFCB) has been reformed for the next one year. The country’s popular film actor Dilara Hanif Purnima has become a member of the board for the first time.

The Ministry of Information and Broadcasting issued a notification signed by its Deputy Secretary Saiful Islam on Sunday in this regard.

Purnima herself is surprised after learning the news. She terms it as a ‘big achievement’ of her career. Talking to the media, she said, “I was a little bit surprised when I got the letter to become a censor board member on Sunday. It is a great achievement and pride for me. Because, when my movie was submitted to the censor board, I was keen to know if my movie was passed uncut. Now being a member of that censor board I can enjoy different types of movies. I feel honoured.”

Purnima, who has a colourful 26-year career on the silver screen, also expressed her gratitude to the concerned authorities for being a member of the censor board. The beautiful actor said, “I never thought that I would ever be a member of the censor board. I don’t think I’m qualified enough to go there. I will try to do my duty properly. I express my gratitude to the Ministry of Information and those concerned for keeping me in such an honourable committee.”

Besides Purnima, prominent figures in the Bangladeshi film industry such as Kazi Hayat, actor Sujata Azim, film producer Khorshed Alam Khasru, film director Jahangir Alam, actors Aruna Biswas, Azizul Hakim and Rokeya Prachi and vice-chairman of the censor board, Khaleda Begum, have been appointed as members of the committee.

According to Censor Board sources, the Information Secretary has been elected as the new chairman of this board. He will serve as the chairman of the Censor Board for the next one year. Besides, six members of various ministries including the Ministry of Information will perform their duties.
