Sampan race to save river Karnaphuli

With a call to save the Karnaphuli from pollution, filling up, and encroachment, Sampan Khela O Chatgainya Sangskriti Mela (a boat race and Chittagonian cultural fair) was held in the city on Friday.

The procession of Sampan (a traditional local boat) and rally were organised by Chattagram Ancholik Sangskriti Academy.

Chattogram Deputy Commissioner (DC) Dr Abul Bashar Md Fakhruzzaman was present as the chief guest, while the fair organising committee chairman Haidar Ali Rony presided over it.

Chattogram Zilla Parishad Chairman ATM Pearul Islam, Lion M Mohiuddin Chowdhury, Lion Kohinoor Kamal, Lion Md Hakim Ali, Karnaphuli Upazila Nirbahi Officer Masuma Jannat, the fair organising committee convener Chowdhury Farid, Chattagram Ancholik Sangskriti Academy Chairman Aliur Rahman, and Chattogram City Corporation (CCC) Councillor Hasan Murad Biplob were also present in the event.

Boatmen Tarek Majhi, Ismat Ullah Shah, and Matiullah Shah secured first, second, and third positions in the traditional boat race, respectively.
