The first phase of the 6th Upazila Parishad Elections in Noakhali’s Subranachar is underway today (Wednesday) with lower voter presence in the morning due to rain.

However, the polling station scenario became normal as the rain stopped after one hour.

This time, Subarnachar is witnessing a battle of ballots between a veteran Awami League leader and a younger one.

Incumbent Upazila Chairman AHM Khairul Anam Chowdhury Salim, also a three-time president of Noakhali district Awami League, is seeking another term, while 26-year-old Atahar Ishraq Sabab Chowdhury, son of Noakhali-4 (Sadar-Subarnachar) constituency MP Ekramul Karim Chowdhury, is contesting for the first time.

Centering on the election, the leaders and activists of Noakhali district Awami League have been divided into two groups.

A total of 2,25,188 voters are eligible to cast their ballots in today's elections being held at 61 polling stations across the upazila.

Ten executive magistrates, along with their teams, are working to prevent any untoward incidents during the polls.
