Dhaka stock turnover exceeds Tk1,000cr mark

Turnover at the Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE) crossed the Tk1,000 crore-mark on Monday after nearly three months while stocks at Chittagong Stock Exchange (CSE) also continued their winning spree.

DSE turnover increased to Tk1,095 crore which was Tk818 crore in the previous session, marking a 34% growth in a day. Dhaka stocks turnover last crossed the Tk1,000 crore mark on 15 February.

DSEX, the prime index of the DSE, went up by 34.95 points or 0.61% to settle at 5,727.02. The DSE 30 Index, comprising blue chips, and the DSE Shariah Index (DSES) also gained 13.36 points to finish at 2,046.81 and 10.52 points respectively closing at 1,261.50.

Out of 396 issues traded, 252 closed green, 86 in the red, and 58 remained unchanged on the DSE trading floor. Sector wise analysis showed pharmaceuticals dominated the turnover chart.

ORIONINFU topped the turnover chart, followed by ASIATICLAB, LOVELLO, FEKDIL and Fortune.

ESQUIRENIT was the day's best performer, posting a gain of 10% while SHYAMPSUG was the worst performer, losing 2.99%.

In its daily market update, UCB Stock Brokerage said non-bank financial institutions, services and real estate and textile sectors closed on positive note while food and allied, life insurance and bank sectors closed in negative territory.

The Chittagong Stock Exchange (CSE) also ended higher with the CSE All Share Price Index or CASPI advancing 129.79 points to settle at 16,361.91 and the Selective Categories Index or CSCX gaining 76.90 points to close at 9,850.32.

Of the stocks traded, 156 advanced, 58 declined, and 13 remained unchanged at the CSE.

The port city's bourse traded 47.63 lakh shares and mutual fund units with a turnover value of Tk12.86 crore.
