A Dhaka court on Sunday placed Child and Old Age Care founder Milton Samadder on four-day remand in a human trafficking case filed with the capital's Mirpur Model Police Station.
Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Begum Shanta Akter passed the order as police produced Milton before the court asking to show him arrested in the case and place him on a seven-day remand.
Dhaka Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Tofazzal Hossain on 2 May had placed Milton on a three-day remand in a case lodged for allegedly making fake death certificates to bury people who died at his centre.
According to the case documents, Milton used to run his Child and Old Age Care, posing as a doctor. He used to make touching video content, and earn money by publishing these on different social media sites.
Milton allegedly used to torture the people, who took shelter in his centre, and let them suffer and subsequently die without receiving proper food and treatment. He is also accused of being involved in human organ trafficking, and used to make fake death certificates to hastily bury people who died at his centre.
Dhanmondi-resident M Rakib, 35, has filed the case accusing Milton of being involved in human trafficking.
On 6 September 2020, Rakib found a two-year-old baby in front of Dhanmandi Boys' School, and called Milton to take necessary steps.
Milton took the baby to his centre and received Tk10,000 from Rakib as an admission fee for the unattended baby.
Recently, as different allegations started surfacing against Milton, Rakib went to the centre on 24 April but could not find the baby. When Rakib asked about the baby's wheareabouts, Milton failed to give any logical answer.
Later, Rakib filed the case under the Prevention and Suppression of Human Trafficking Act, 2012, on 1 May.
