Bangladesh’s batting coach David Hemp said that young opener Tanzid Hasan Tamim, who made his T20I debut with a blistering unbeaten half-century in the five-match T20I series opener against Zimbabwe at the Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium on Friday, is growing week by week and month by month.
Tanzid seemed to have passed the first test as Bangladesh began their preparation for the upcoming ICC T20 World Cup with a convincing eight-wicket win against Zimbabwe.
Tanzid, who was given a chance ahead of Parvez Hossain Emon in the opening game, seized the opportunity by hitting eight fours and two sixes in his 47-ball 67-run unbeaten innings to help the host earn a comfortable win over the visitors to go 1-0 up in the series.
“I think in terms of his development and progress, he had an exposure in the 50-over World Cup and certainly from my experience having watched him in the HP programming, I think he is growing week by week and month by month,” Hemp told reporters in Chattogram on Saturday.
“He is now obviously making better decisions more consistently and he has room for improvement but it is refreshing to see young players coming and playing to their strength and trying to move forward which way he is playing. So certainly at the moment, he is heading in the right direction.
“He (Tanzid) is someone who is continuously looking to evolve and improve his game. It’s really fantastic from the coaching point of view if you want to move forward. He is no exception to that. He works really hard and obviously, he thinks ahead about his game and how he can get better and that’s all we ask players to do,” he said, adding that he is not losing his sleep over the current form of Liton Das, who could manage only one run in the series opener.
“He (Liton) might be low on runs in terms of...but he is working very hard on his game. That’s the key thing for us as he is continuously trying to get better and come through that. Players go through these phases where they cannot score runs and go through patches where they are not as fluent. He is working through that at the moment,” he said.
“I think it’s a very difficult job on the penny. The ball is new and sometimes it nips around just the last night and there were too many balls that nipped back or nipped around yesterday. So it’s a difficult place to bat with the challenge with the new ball,” he added.
