Trains starting from Kamalapur railway station in Dhaka fell behind schedule on Saturday following the accident in Gazipur, causing immense suffering to passengers.
On Friday morning, a commuter train crashed into an oil-carrying freight train at the outer signal of Joydebpur railway junction in Gazipur, disrupting rail communication with Dhaka and northern and western parts of the country. However, the communication resumed through the down tracks later on.
While visiting Kamalapur station today, this correspondent found journeys of trains bound for northern and western regions got delayed by several hours with travellers waiting for an uncertain period.
Md Masud Sarwar, manager of Kamalapur railway station, told the Daily Sun that no train journey was suspended yet, only the trains that got stuck were running late by two to three hours. “Hopefully the problem will be resolved by today.”
