A commuter train crashed into an oil carrying freight train at Outer Signal of Joydebpur railway junction in Gazipur on Friday morning, leaving at least four people injured.
Besides, some 10 coaches of both the trains got derailed after the clash that occurred around 11am, disrupting rail communications with Dhaka and northern and western parts of the country for two hours.
In-charge of Joydebpur railway police outpost Sub Inspector Setafur Rahman said the accident occurred at 10:50am when the Dhaka-bound Tangail Commuter Train hit the Gazipur-bound freight train due to a mistake of the signalman on the south end of the station.
The accident left some 10 coaches of the two trains derailed, he said, adding that four people including the loco master of the commuter train sustained injuries.
Meanwhile, three separate probe bodies were formed to look into the incident. Already, three railway staffers of Joydebpur Junction Railway Station were suspended for issuing a wrong signal.
After the accident, all rail communications with Dhaka and northern and western parts of the country got disrupted. However, after two hours, the train communications resumed through the down tracks.
Two platoons of Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) were also deployed to assist the rescue work, said a media release issued by BGB headquarters in Dhaka.
The injured were admitted to Shaheed Tajuddin Ahmed Medical College.
Gazipur district administration formed a three-member probe body with ADM Motiur Rahman as its chief. The committee was asked to submite its findings within two working days.
Gazipur Deputy Commissioner Abul Fateh Mohammad Safikul Islam said the probe body would look into if there was negligence of anybody.
Bangladesh Railway, on the other hand, formed two separate probe bodies to investigate the matter.
