Five more BGP members take shelter in Bangladesh

Five more members of Myanmar’s Border Guard Police (BGP) have fled and taken refuge in Bangladesh amid the ongoing conflict between the ruling junta and the armed rebel group along the international border.
They entered Bangladesh through the Kharangkhali frontier of Teknaf upazila in Cox’s Bazar, Lt Col Mohiuddin Ahmed, commanding officer of the Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) Battalion-2 in Teknaf, confirmed the matter.
The BGB members disarmed and took them into custody, he added.
With the new arrival, the number of Myanmar troops has risen to 194 so far.
On Sunday, nine BGP personnel crossed the Hwaikong frontier in Teknaf upazila and took shelter in Bangladesh.
On 30 March, three more Myanmar troops, including a member of the army and two BGP members, entered Bangladesh through the Tumbru border under Naikhongchhari upazila in Bandarban.
On 11 March, 177 BGP members fled to Bangladesh through the border area in Naikhongchhari and took shelter amid an internal conflict in the neighbouring country.
In February, 330 Myanmar nationals, including BGP members, army personnel, and immigration officials, crossed the border and took refuge in Bangladesh.
On 15 February, they were handed over to the BGP authorities amid tight security.
