Four more sent to prison

A Bandarban court on Sunday sent four suspected members of the Kuki-Chin National Force (KNF) to jail in connection with the recent bank robbery, looting of firearms, and kidnapping at Ruma and Thanchi upazilas under Bandarban district.
The court of Senior Judicial Magistrate ASM Imran passed the order after they were produced before it, said Inspector Fazlul Haque of the Bandarban District Court.
Earlier, they were arrested from Ruma upazila under the district during the ongoing drive by the joint forces on Saturday.
The arrestees were identified as Lal Raubat Bawm alias Apple, 27, Lal Lom Thar Bawm alias Alam, 31, Rual Mithusel Bawm alias Amang, 25, and Lal Ruat Lian Bam, 38.
With this, a total of 62 people, including members of the KNF, were sent to jail in nine cases filed in connection with the incidents.
Mentionable, in the series of attacks, KNF members stormed into the Ruma branch of Sonali Bank on April 2, kidnapping the manager and looting firearms and ammunition from the on-duty police and Ansar.
The following afternoon, they robbed the Thanchi branches of Sonali Bank and Krishi Bank, looting approximately Tk18 lakh in broad daylight.
The bank manager was released on 4 April, two days after being abducted, following payment of a ransom of Tk15 lakh.
Meanwhile, the terrorist group also launched attacks on the Thanchi police station, BGB camp, and upazila parishad, resulting in a massive gunfight between the police and BGB on that night.
