Pahela Baishakh, the first day of Bangla New Year, was celebrated at Jatiya Kabi Kazi Nazrul Islam University in Mymensingh amid great enthusiasm and in a universal festive mood on Sunday.

The celebration started with Mangal Shobhajatra, led by Vice-Chancellor (VC) Prof Soumitra Sekhar in the morning. The procession was brought out from the Jayadhani Mancha of the university.

Teachers, students, officials, employees, and visitors of different ages spontaneously participated in Mangal Shobhajatra and marched through the campus, wearing colourful dresses and dancing to the beat of the music.

Hoping that the new year would be beautiful and peaceful for all, the VC said, “May your day and the future be beautiful. We will work together in all situations – good or bad. Take the university forward, and this is the conviction of the day.”

He added, “This festival is not only a traditional way to protect our heritage, but also it encourages us to become better humans with higher values.”
