The authorities have collected Tk1.81 crore in toll in eight hours at Padma Bridge as the pressure of vehicles increased ahead of Eid-ul-Fitr, the biggest religious festival for Muslims.
Confirming the matter, Padma Bridge Site Office Additional Director Amirul Haider Chowdhury said the amount of toll was realised from 13,886 vehicles, including 5,861 motorcycles, from 6am to 2pm on Tuesday.
The authorities collected Tk1.13 crore through seven booths at the Mawa end over the period, he said.
Although there was pressure of vehicles in the morning, travellers were able to cross the bridge without any hassle, Amirul added.
On 25 June 2022, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina inaugurated the 6.15km Padma Bridge, connecting Dhaka and other areas with 21 south-western districts of the country. The bridge was opened for vehicular movement the next day.
