At least 14 buses caught fire at around 8.50pm Monday at a parking space in the capital’s Demra area, and about five firefighting units brought the situation under control after an hour at 9.48pm.

Md Anwarul Islam, a media section official of the fire service, confirmed the matter to the Daily Sun.

It was not yet clear whether some miscreants had set the fire to the buses, or it started accidentally on a bus and later spread to nearby vehicles. All the buses belong to the "London Express", a public transport company.

There was no report of human casualties as yet.
