Vice Chancellor of Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (BUET) Prof Satya Prasad Majumder has said that they are bound to comply with the court order that allows student politics on the university campus.

The BUET VC made the remarks while talking to reporters at his office after the High Court (HC) passed an order, lifting the ban on student politics on the public technological research university campus on Monday.

“We must obey the HC order. Otherwise, we will be accused of contempt of court,” he said in a reaction to the court order.

Earlier on Saturday, Majumder expressed his solidarity with the demand raised by the agitated students to keep the campus free from student politics.

Following a writ petition, an HC bench of Justice Md Khosruzzaman and Justice KM Zahid Sarwar on Monday stayed the effectiveness of the university notice that banned student politics on the campus and said from now the BUET students can run political activities.

The BUET authorities banned student politics on the campus following the murder of its second-year student Abrar Fahad by the members of Bangladesh Chhatra League of the university's Sher-e-Bangla Hall on 7 October 2019.
