Dhaka Mass Transit Company Limited (DMTCL) on Thursday directed the authorities concerned to remove internet and cable TV wires over the MRT Line-6 within 24 hours, issuing a warning of punitive action in case of non-compliance with the order.
The authorities have identified 51 buildings where internet and cable TV wires have been installed over the metro rail line.
MRT Line-6 Project Director Md Aftabuddin Talukder issued the 24-hour ultimatum to the Cable Operators Association of Bangladesh and the Internet Service Providers Association of Bangladesh in a letter dated 28 March.
The letter stated that MRT Line-6 is now operating regularly from 7am to 10:14pm except Fridays according to the scheduled time.
However, cable TV lines (dish lines), internet cable lines, etc, have been connected to various buildings over the route alignment of MRT-6 via the overhead catenary system.
“It has been observed that approximately 51 buildings currently have such connections,” said the letter, adding that there is a possibility of a catastrophic accident occurring if cables tear and fall onto the high-capacity metro rail's overhead catenary and the track alignment of MRT-6 at any moment.
“In this context, it has been specially requested to take necessary measures to remove cable TV lines, internet cables, etc, within 24 hours from various buildings that trespass over the route alignment of MR6. Otherwise, appropriate legal action will be taken by the DMTCL in the public interest,” the letter concluded.
