The Chattogram Zoo has almost finished preparations for introducing three newest tiger cubs as a major attraction for visitors during the upcoming Eid-ul-Fitr. The cubs took birth in the family of the well-known tiger Joe Biden.

On Monday, the female tiger cubs were officially named Prakriti, Srotoshwini and Ruposhi, and brought out of a special post-natal care for the first time.

The Zoo Acting Curator Dr Shahadat Hossain Shuvo took the three cubs out of the cage, where they stayed under their mother’s care, and handed them over to a Chattogram deputy commissioner. Through this, the cubs came into human sight for the first time a month after their birth.

Chattogram Deputy Commissioner Abul Bashar Md Fakhruzzaman attended the event with his wife Tanzia Rahman, president of Chattogram Ladies Welfare Club. Md Arafat Siddiki, an assistant commissioner at Chattogram district administration, Chattogram zoo’s Member Secretary Hussain Mohammad, and Executive Magistrate Al Amin were also present among others.

Deputy Commissioner Fakhruzzaman said that the names of tiger cubs have been picked in keeping with Bangali traditions.

“These cubs were born in the Joe Biden's family, the tiger who was born in the same zoo and named in honour of the US president environment conservation efforts,” he said.

Acting Curator Shuvo said the zoo now has 17 tigers: five male and 12 female. Five of the tigers belong to the rare Albino White species, he said.
