Pakistani pacer Mohammad Amir has ended his retirement to strengthen his home team in the upcoming T20 international tournament, the cricketer said in a social media post Sunday.
The ICC Twenty20 World Cup in June is expected to be a milestone in cricket’s history as it would be hosted by the global superpower US alongside West Indies.
The hype surrounding the event as well as a recent shakeup in Pakistan’s cricket management authority have encouraged Amir to change his decision.
He retired from all forms of cricket in 2020 over disagreements with the coach and the team’s management authority.
Recent changes in Pakistan cricket board have also likely encouraged all-rounder Imad Wasim to break his retirement for defending the South Asian nation’s image in the US.
In his post on X, former Twitter, Amir said: "I still dream to play for Pakistan! Life brings us to the points where at times we have to reconsider our decisions, There has been few positive discussions between myself and the PCB where they respectfully made me feel that I was needed and can still play for Pakistan.”
"After discussing with family and well wishers I declare that I am available to be considered for upcoming T20WC, I want do this for my country as it comes before my personal decisions. Donning the green jersey and serving my country has always been, and will continue to be, my greatest aspirations," he added.
