Google Drive website finally gets dark mode
A A

Google Drive, the most popular personal storage and synchronization service, has finally introduced the much-awaited Dark Mode in its web version, reducing the strain on the eyes while browsing through cloud storage on the web.

Although the material design principles of Google for Android have forced system-wide Dark Mode on most Android apps, the company was indifferent to introducing it in its web versions of these apps. That’s why just a handful of Google apps, like YouTube and Search, have Dark Mode support on the web.

The new dark theme will primarily affect the file view, keeping it simple and clear.

How to enable Dark Mode on the web

As reported by 9to5Google, as the change takes effect now, users can see a pop-up on the opening of the website alerting them of the newly-made change.

However, if the pop-up doesn’t show, users can manually enable the Dark Mode by simply going to Settings → General → Appearance. Under Appearance, users can choose between Light and Dark modes.

Currently, Google Drive is using a deep gray shade for the background of the search bar and sidebar, while a darker or almost black shade is used for the inner container.
