Bangladesh all-rounder Mehidy Hasan Miraz said on Sunday that the wicket of the Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium in Chattogram is ideal for his side as it will help them to improve their game.

Bangladesh will take on Sri Lanka in the series decider of the ongoing three-match ODI series today at this venue of the port city.

Hosts Bangladesh, earlier made a winning start in the series with a six-wicket victory but the tourists leveled it by winning the second match by three-wicket.

Bangladesh Sri Lanka series

The Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium (ZACS) traditionally produces batting paradise but in the ongoing series there is grass on the wicket that suggests there is something for both batters and bowlers.

“It’s a good thing that we are playing on good wickets. It’s an advantage for us. We always look for the results of whether we are winning or losing. When we go to the big tournaments, we play on true wickets. On those wickets, there are challenges for spinners and pacers, our habits get better (playing on these kinds of wickets),” Mehidy told reporters ahead of the match at the ZACS on Sunday.

“We will have to try to defend 300 and chase down more than 300 runs (on this kind of wicket) and then we can get the results at the big tournaments like the World Cup and Asia Cup because we all know of our past experiences,” he further added.

“I think this is the ideal wicket, playing matches on these wickets. If we can make it a habit – batters scoring big and bowlers defending, then we will succeed in big tournaments in the future,” he said adding that the day game will certainly have an advantage considering dew played a big part in deciding the fate of the game in the previous two occasions, as bowlers defending the total, found it hard to grip the ball.

“Look, we lost the last game. Considering it’s a day match, of course there will be some advantage for us. Because day/night matches depend a lot on the toss. The team who win the toss get the bigger advantage,” he said.

“Wickets at night are a bit challenging for the spinners. Sri Lankan spinners did not get much help in the first game either. They had good bowlers but they didn’t get much help. It was difficult for us (spinners),” he said adding that on a good wicket, batters who get a start, need to play long innings.

“On good wickets, it’s important for batters who get a start to play long innings, which is something that Shanto and Mushfiq bhai did in the first game. Towhid Hridoy did the same in the second game but we couldn’t support him. Riyad bhai, in the first game when we lost early wickets, he implemented his game plan of attacking, which eased things for us,” he added.

“Each player has a different game plan. Maybe he planned that if he could attack and get free, then it would have been good for both him and the team (in the second game). Maybe I was also thinking that way but you don’t always succeed. At the end of the day, I feel that it’s important for the player who gets a start to finish things off on a good wicket,” he concluded.
