Dhaka University’s Mass Communication and Journalism department’s alumni association has got a new committee after a long time on 8 March.
The committee, consisting of 30 members, was formed through a contesting election held at the alumni floor of Nabab Nawab Ali Chowdhury senate building of Dhaka University in the evening where the listed alumni of the Mass Communication and Journalism department of Dhaka University appeared as voters.
After counting the votes, at 11:30 pm, the chief election commissioner Professor Dr. Golam Rahman announced the results.
Former District and Sessions Judge Mohammad Shamsul Haque has been made the president of the committee and senior news editor of Channel I Mir Attaqui Masruruzzaman has been made the general secretary of the committee.
Kabir Mahmud, joint secretary of Local Government Ministry, Kamal Uddin Jasim- Vice President of Islami Bank, Manas Ghosh, member secretary of Broadcast Journalist Centre and Gias Uddin Ahmed, additional DIG of police have been elected as Vice Presidents of the new committee.
Hasan Ullah Khan Rana - sports editor of the daily Kalbela, Sharmin Iffat Shams of BTV, and Kabir Ahmed Khan- former GS of Dhaka Reporters Unity have been elected as the joint general secretaries of the committee.
Shakil Hasan, a senior reporter of Jamuna TV, has been elected as organizing secretary, BBC Bangla journalist Rakib Hasnat Sumon has been elected as treasurer, and Sharmin Ahmed, chairperson of the Communication Disorder department of Dhaka University has been elected as publication secretary.
Mehedi Hasan, staff reporter of the Daily Sun has been elected as the communication secretary, development activist Mostafa Mohammad Tahan has been elected cultural secretary and Tarek al Hasan Nirjhor has been elected as the office secretary.
The elected executive members of the committee are Tariqul Islam Khan Robin, Md. Ali Asif Shawon, Mohiuddin Mujahid Mahi, Muhammad Zahidul Islam (Sajal Zahid), KM Shakhawat Moon, Nazmul Alam Naveen, Mazharul Anwar Khan Shipu, Lopa Hossain, Shawkat Ahmed Faridi, Reza Farhad, Sharmin Akhtar, Masood Bin Abdur Razzaq, Amina Islam, Rafiqul Islam and Oliur Rahman.
The election commissioners are Professor Mofizur Rahman and Associate Professor Shaonti Haider, former secretary of the Govt Abu Alam Mohammad Shahid Khan and former vice president of the national press club Quazi Rownaq Hossain.
