A mobile court operated by Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) imposed a fine of Tk 1 lakh on Kacchi Bhai restaurant’s Gulshan-2 branch in the capital on Wednesday for allegedly not having the necessary documents to run the business.

Julker Nayen, Zonal Executive Officer and Executive Magistrate of DNCC Zone-3, led the drive as part of DNCC’s series of drives to look into the fire safety measures at non-complainant buildings and restaurants in the city’s Gulshan and Banani areas, following the tragic fire incident at Green Cozy Cottage on Bailey Road in Dhaka this week that left 46 people dead.

Julker Nayen said, “We imposed a Tk 1 lakh fine on Kacchi Bhai as the restaurant does not have the required documents for running a business except a trade licence.” 

“We gave the restaurant a seven-day ultimatum to obtain the fire safety and environment clearance certificates from the authorities concerned. If they fail to prepare the documents within the fixed time frame, the restaurant will be sealed off,” he added.
