“Art Market” (Shilpa Bazaar), an art event to connect artists and art collectors, concluded on the premises of Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy in the capital on Sunday. Popular band Feedback performed at the closing ceremony.

‘Art Market’ ends  at Shilpakala The two-week event, which began on 19 February, featured 100 stalls displaying artworks in four categories, including Artists, Studios, Universities and Art Gallery. The stalls displayed handmade traditional products like crafts, paintings, ceramic works, women’s accessories, dolls and others.

 The muslin used as the dress of kings and zamindars in this subcontinent was made from this type of cotton called ‘futi’ which was a symbol of nobility. This rare tradition was also seen in the “Art Market”. A 50-meter-long muslin of fine craftsmanship through a ring was exhibited at the event.

Besides, UNESCO-recognised rickshaw paintings, Jamdani, hill weaving, jewelry, and sculptures were displayed with artists and entrepreneurs at the event.

According to the organiser, the aim of the “Art Market” is not only to display or buy and sell art products but to encourage professional art practice and to highlight the folk cultural heritage of Bangladesh to the new generation.  

This year “Art Market” was held under the theme “Promotion of Art for Aesthetic Life through Professional Art Practice”.
