A four-day conference of the deputy commissioners (DCs) is set to commence tomorrow, providing a platform for top field-level administration officials to engage directly with government policymakers.

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina will formally inaugurate the event at the Shapla Hall of her office in the capital. Subsequent working sessions of the conference will take place at the Osmani Memorial Auditorium starting from Sunday, featuring a total of 30 sessions.

Today, Cabinet Secretary Md Mahbub Hossain will provide detailed insights into the DC conference during a noon press briefing at the secretariat.

Md Amin Ul Ahsan, additional secretary of the Cabinet Division (district and field administration), stated, “The conference aims to address issues and challenges encountered by the DCs in their work, and to share experiences and prospects.”

He added, “Progress on resolutions from the previous DC conference will also be assessed, with a publication detailing suggestions and advancements from the last conference set to be released.”

A cabinet division official disclosed that this year, 350 proposals have been put forth by the DCs and divisional commissioners, marking an increase from the 245 proposals received from top field administration officials last year.

Former cabinet secretaries will, for the first time, share their experiences with divisional commissioners and DCs.

Ministries concerned, along with ministers of respective divisions, advisors, state ministers and secretaries, will participate in the conference. They will offer necessary guidance and address various queries. The cabinet secretary will oversee different working sessions during the conference.

Due to President Shahabuddin Ahmed’s absence from the country, there will be no session between him and the DCs. However, the DCs and divisional commissioners will have meetings with the prime minister, Jatiya Sangsad speaker, and chief justice.
