Senior India pace bowler Mohammed Shami has undergone a successful surgery on his left Achilles tendon, which will rule him out of next month's Indian Premier League and possibly the T20 World Cup in June.
Shami, 33, who last played for India in the ODI World Cup final against Australia on November 19 last, underwent the operation in London on Monday.
Shami will need a recovery time of a minimum of three months and the IPL is slated to be played from March 22 to May 26 followed by the T20 World Cup in the Caribbean and USA.
Meanwhile, Prime Minister Narendra Modi today wished the pacer a speedy recovery following the latter’s surgery.
"Wishing you a speedy recovery and good health, @MdShami11! I'm confident you'll overcome this injury with the courage that is so integral to you."
