Hinting at the political debacle of BNP, Awami League General Secretary Obaidul Quader, has said that the party will face a long-term consequence for its mistake of abstaining from the January 7 national election.
“I am surprised that despite being granted bail on health grounds, Mirza Fakhrul, using crutches, went to hold a meeting with the visiting US delegation to complain against the country. BNP believes in the politics of filing complaints. Thus, the party will have to pay for a long time,” he said.
Claiming that Awami League does not believe in politics of exaggeration, Quader, also Road Transport and Bridges Minister, said that his party will face such politics through political means.
Quader was exchanging views with local reporters in Daganbhuyan of Feni while en route to his native village in Noakhali on Monday.
He praised Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina saying that he has never seen a politician like her (Hasina).
“I have not seen a good person like Sheikh Hasina since 75. That is why this government has remained in power for so long. She treats people well, and people also love her,” Quader said.
Quader appears somewhat complacent, having been elected as the Awami League general secretary for three consecutive terms and serving as the Minister for Road Transport and Bridges for the last 18 years.
“I have been elected Awami League general secretary for three consecutive terms which no one else could do after the independence. I have been serving as the minister for the last 18 years. It is rare in history. I don’t know whether such an example can be found anywhere else. Bangabandhu’s daughter trusts me, she is also satisfied with me and thus I have attained the rare fortune,” he said.
