Gunshots and mortar explosions have once again reverberated through the Teknaf frontiers, following a period of relative calm that lasted three days.

The troubled region along the Myanmar border in Cox’s Bazar district experienced the unsettling sounds from Friday night onwards.

According to locals, the echoes of gunfire and explosions resounded intermittently from Teknaf and Shahparisdwip frontlines starting around 9pm on Friday, persisting until Saturday noon.

Consequently, anxiety gripped the residents residing along the frontiers once again.

Teknaf Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Adnan Chowdhury confirmed the news, saying that gunfire sounds were indeed audible from the Teknaf frontiers since Friday night.

However, he reassured that there was no significant impact observed on the Bangladesh side.

To mitigate any potential risks, both the Border Guard Bangladesh and Coast Guard remain on high alert to deter any untoward incidents, as mentioned by the UNO.

In contrast, sources indicated that the situation along the frontiers in Naikhongchhari upazila in Bandarban and Ukhiya upazila in Cox’s Bazar remained relatively calm in recent days.

The conflict between Myanmar security forces and the rebel Arakan Army, which intensified since February 3rd, has seen mortar shells and bullets encroaching into Bangladesh territory, resulting in casualties and injuries.

In response to these challenges, the government has heightened the vigilance of Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) personnel to thwart any potential infiltration attempts across the Myanmar borders during the conflict.

Additional BGB forces have been deployed in border areas to closely monitor and manage the situation.
