Bashundhara Eye Hospital and Research Institute (BEHRI) has provided free treatments to over 1200 underprivileged people in Bancharampur upazila of Brahmanbaria as part of a country-wide medical camp programme.

Dhaka-based Rotary Club of Baridhara Sunrise arranged the day-long eye camp on Friday in association with the BEHRI and Vision Care Foundation at Bancharampur SM Pilot High School, said a press release.

The patients received necessary medicines free of cost while free surgery has been provided to those suffering from eye problems such as cataracts and macular degeneration along with spectacles services.

A team of 12 expert physicians from BEHRI, including senior specialist Dr Anthony Albert, Dr Akter Ferdousi Jahan and optometrist Rubel Rana, provided treatment in the daylong eye camp.

The eye camp organiser Abu Toab said that around 1200 patients received free medical service from 9 am to 4 pm.

“The patients get glasses and necessary medicines apart from the initial eye examination. The patients with severe eye problems have been selected for surgery at Bashundhara Eye Hospital in Dhaka,” he said.

Meanwhile, the common people of Bancharampur, known as a remote area on the eastern side of the Meghna River, are extremely happy to have free eye treatment at their fingertips. Apart from receiving services at home, they are very happy with the news of free operation in Dhaka.
