National captain Jamal Bhuyan comes into the spotlight once again as a rumor spreads out recently in the country's football arena that he is returning to the Bangladesh leagues.
A source claimed that Jamal is likely to join Abahani Ltd Dhaka for the upcoming second phase of the ongoing ABG Bashundhara Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) 2023-24.
It also claimed that the 33-year-old Bangladesh captain may not extend his contract with Argentine third division outfit Club Sol de Mayo.
The main reason behind this rumor is that Jamal has recently talked with the club authority. Both sides confirmed this discussion but subtly avoided disclosing the details.
“Jamal talked with us (Abahani), but the deal (contract signing) is not yet confirmed. The club authority is looking after the matter,” Abahani team manager Kazi Nazrul Islam told the reporters on Wednesday.
Jamal also confirmed it, “ Yes. We just have had a discussion, but nothing more than that.”
Jamal has been featuring for Sol de Mayo in Torneo Federal A, a third tier domestic competition in Argentina, since August last.
His one-year contract will end this August, but the Bangladesh captain, who played only six matches including four league games there, will end contract with the club before August and will return to Bangladesh on 29 March.
The next edition of this Argentine league is expected to begin from the last week of March.
