Two men arrested with 1,015 poppy plants in Rangpur

The Department of Narcotics Control (DNC) arrested two men for cultivating the banned poppy plants from Boro Bala at Mithapukur in Rangpur on Tuesday.

A total of 1,015 poppy plants, including 235 opium poppies, were seized from their fields.

The arrestees are Nur Alam, 43, son of Abul Kashem and Abdul Wahed Mia, 63, son of late Abdul Aziz Mia of Chhoran at the upazila.

Tanvir Momtaz, director (operations and intelligence) of the DNC, confirmed it to the Daily Sun.

Prosecutor of Rangpur DNC Faisal Hasan told the Daily Sun that they seized the plants and lodged a case against the arrestees with Mithapukur Police Station.

They would be produced before a Rangpur court with the seized plants on Wednesday, he added.
