“Dangal” actor Suhani Bhatnagar’s parents have shared details about the medical complications that led to her death at the age of 19. Best known for playing the child Babita Kumari Phogat in the Bollywood blockbuster film, Suhani was diagnosed with a rare autoimmune disorder, and spent over 10 days at AIIMS before succumbing to her illness. Her parents addressed the media a day after her passing.
In a recent interaction with the media, according to India Today, Suhani’s parents said that she had been diagnosed with dermatomyositis. According to her father, this rare condition was identified around two months ago, when she started experiencing swelling in her hands.
The swelling later spread to other parts of her body. He said that Suhani caught a minor infection in hospital, leading to fluid accumulation in her body, including in her lungs. Despite ventilation, her oxygen levels dropped significantly. Her immune system was impacted by the steroids that she was given. Suhani’s father said, “Even after putting her on a ventilator, her oxygen level was very low, and then yesterday evening at 7 pm, the AIIMS doctors said ‘she is not more.’”
