Panic that gripped the residents living along the frontiers in Tenkaf upazila of Cox’s Bazar is yet to be removed since the sounds of firing and shelling continued in the war-torn Myanmar on Sunday.
Besides, attempt to enter Bangladesh territory through land and waterways also remained continued following the ongoing fighting between Myanmar security personnel and rebel Arakan Army (AA).
Locals said the sporadic sounds of firing and shelling were heard through borders along Shahparirdwip since 8am on Sunday.
Same sounds were also heard through Hoyaikkong, Kanjorpara, and Kharangkgali areas from 8:00pm to 10:00pm on Saturday, they said.
Contacted, Station Commander Lieutenant Commander HM Lutfullahil Mazid of the Coast Guard’s Teknaf Station said they remained vigilant in the River Naf.
None was being allowed to enter the Bangladesh territory, he said.
Mentionable, the conflict between the Myanmar security personnel and rebel Arakan Army (AA) escalated since 3 February.
Mortar shells and bullets started landing in Bangladesh territory since then, claiming the lives of two persons and injuring several others.
The government has kept the BGB members on high alert to prevent any infiltration through the Myanmar borders during the conflict.
Additional BGB men have been deployed in the border areas to closely monitor the situation.
