The government, in the third phase, announced the names of 108 martyred intellectuals who were killed by the Pakistan occupation army and its local collaborators between 25 March 1971 and 31 January 1972. The government published the list on 15 February.

With the newly announced names, the government has recognized a total of 443 individuals as martyred intellectuals. Earlier, on 7 April 2021, the Ministry of Liberation War Affairs published the names of 191 martyred intellectuals through a gazette notification. Later on 29 May 2022, 143 other names were included in the list.

Among the newly enlisted martyred intellectuals, 71 were teachers, eight politicians, six social workers, and five doctors and lawyers each. Additionally, names from the fields of writing, engineering, drama, journalism, and music have also been included in the list.

On 19 November 2020, the Ministry of Liberation War Affairs formed an 11-member committee comprising freedom fighters, liberation war researchers, and government officials to finalize the definition of 'martyred intellectuals'. The committee was also given the authority to search the country’s martyred intellectuals and scrutinise the available names.
