Pakistani legendary cricketer Ramiz Raja advises the Bangladesh Cricket Board to provide a healthy environment in the Bangladesh Premier League so that it can help the cricketers grow for international cricket.
Ramiz, the former Pakistani opener who was also the president of the Pakistan Cricket Board, is currently in Chattogram to do commentary in the ongoing BPL.
“BPL now needs to look after that healthy environment where the young kids get the flavour of international cricket and learn while being on the job. Temperament is an issue with some of the Bangladeshi players at times. You develop that environment where that temperament is grown and your nerves become steely nerves and that can happen if you give that environment,” Ramiz told The Daily Sun on Friday.
“I think it will eventually grow. But they need to make sure that matches are not one sided and you have international players.
“Pitches are a lot better in the Bangladesh Premier League now as it gives you balance between bat and ball. Overall you just need to continue with the effort. There is a process behind producing young players because young players will make their mark in the BPL.
“The entire exercise of all these leagues is to make sure talent comes through the ranks quickly and they are given the platform and they are put in a situation where their temperament is tested and their nerves are tested.
“For Bangladeshi youngsters to be rubbing shoulders with Babar Azam, Rizwan or Shakib or other Bangladesh greats, it’s a lifetime opportunity and you got to soak in everything. You got to make sure you learn from these greats,” he concluded.
