Mohammedan defeat arch-rivals Abahani

Nigerian forward Sunday Chukwuemeka Emmanuel struck a brace that helped defending champions Mohammedan Sporting Club Ltd to beat runners-up Abahani Ltd Dhaka by 2-1 goals in a Group B place decider match of the ongoing ABG Bashundhara Federation Cup 2023-24 at the Sheikh Fazlul Haque Mani Stadium in Gopalganj on Tuesday.
Dhaka Abahani took a lead when Saint Vincentian forward Cornelius Stewart scored off a pass from Brazilian Washington Brandao dos Santos in the 39th minute, but Sunday changed the game by scoring a brace within a span of four minutes after the half time (51st and 55th minutes).
After the day’s win, Mohammedan SC ended at top in this four-team group while Dhaka Abahani came second. Both sides earlier directly entered into the quarterfinals having two wins each, the day's match only decided their places in the group.

Chittagong Abahoni Ltd also beat Brothers Union Ltd by 3-0 goals in the day’s other match of the same four-team group at the Shaheed Bir Sreshtho Flight Lieutenant Matiur Rahman Stadium in Munshiganj.
Midfielder Shakil Ali scored a brace in the 8th and 20th minutes while his fellow midfielder Amiruzzaman Saymon contributed one in the 72nd minute.
Ctg Abahoni failed to reach quarters as one of the two best third-placed teams. Rahmatganj Muslim Friends Society from Group A and Sheikh Russel Krira Chakra Ltd from Group C confirmed for the quarters.
