Popular drama troupe Theatre will stage its new play “Love Letters” at Nilima Ibrahim Auditorium of Bangladesh Mohila Samity in the capital this evening, marking the Valentine’s Day.
Noted artiste couple Ramendu Majumdar and Ferdousi Majumder will be seen acting in the play.
‘Love Letters’ is the 48th production of the troupe. The play has been adopted from US dramatist A R Gurney’s Pulitzer Prize nominee drama in the same name. Abdus Selim has translated the play into Bengali. Ramendu Majumdar and Ferdousi Majumder’s daughter Tropa Majumdar is the director of the drama.
The play centres on two characters, Antor and Maisha. Using the epistolary form sometimes found in novels, they sit side by side at tables and read the notes, letters and cards – in which over nearly 60years, they discuss their hopes and ambitions, dreams and disappointments, victories and defeats – that have passed between them throughout their separated lives.
Ramendu Majumdar will play the role of Anonta and Ferdousi Majumder will be seen as Maisha in ‘Love Letters’.
The issue of our liberation war has been included in the life course of Anonta and Maisha in the Bengali adopted ‘Love Letters’.
Anant studied barrister abroad. He took in the Liberation War in 1971. After the liberation war, he left the barrister and concentrated on writing about the liberation war and heroes. On the other hand, Maisha is a daughter of a rich family.
