Railways Minister Md Zillul Hakim emphasised the importance of providing quality food for passengers, stating that the agreement between Bangladesh Railway and the catering organisation will be terminated if the food does not meet railway standards.
He made the remarks while addressing as chief guest a discussion on cleanliness, the quality of catering service, and related matters of the railway at the conference room of the Rail Bhaban in the capital on Tuesday.
The railways minister said there is an obligation to provide quality food to the passengers on rail as per the contract with catering organisations. The price of food has been hiked with recent price adjustments reflecting market values. But passengers complain that the catering service organisations are serving stale bread and unpleasant-smelling food.
The attitude of the people who are running catering services will have to change in order to ensure standard food for the passengers. The image of the catering service organisation does not tarnish to this end. But the authorities of the railway and the minister suffer for that, he pointed out.
