Chattogram Challengers’ Sri Lankan opener Avishka Fernando smashed an unbeaten 91 off 50 balls to help his side move to the second place in the ongoing Bangladesh Premier League points table after they beat Fortune Barishal by 10 runs in a high-scoring encounter in Sylhet on Saturday.

Avishka’s blistering knock consisted of five fours and seven sixes while Curtis Campher remained not out on 29 off nine balls as Chattogram posted a colossal total of 193-4 in 20 overs – the highest team total in the ongoing BPL.

Barishal, in reply, got off to a rollicking start after their openers Ahmed Shehzad and Tamim Iqbal put up 55 runs in just 5.2 overs before the former was dismissed by Bilal Khan after scoring 39 off 17 balls.

Tamim made 33 off 30 balls before he became Campher’s (4-20) first of four victims in the contest and despite Mehidy Hasan Miraz’s (16-ball 35) valiant effort with the bat in the later part of their innings, Barishal could make 183-7 in their stipulated overs.

This was Barishal’s third consecutive defeat in the ongoing tournament after they won their opening game against Rangpur Riders in Dhaka.

Meanwhile, with this win, Chattogram have emerged as a top contender to qualify for the playoffs in this edition of the BPL as they now have won three out of their four games.

Campher was named player of the match for his outstanding all-round performance.
