Three meritorious students of Dhaka University’s Department of Mass Communication and Journalism were given the Ali Riaz Post-Graduate Research Trust Fund Award on Wednesday.

DU Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr ASM Maksud Kamal handed over the award to the students as the chief guest at Muzaffar Ahmed Chowdhury Auditorium on the campus.

The awardees include MSS students of the 2020–21 academic session, Tamara Yasmin Toma, and MSS students of the 2021–22 academic session, Md Nasimul Huda and Orthi Nabonita.

DU Mass Communication and Journalism Department Chairman Dr Abul Mansur Ahmed presided over the program while renowned Prof Dr Ali Riaz of Illinois State University, USA, also a donor of the trust fund, spoke at the program.

DU Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr ASM Maqsud Kamal expressed his sincere thanks to the trust fund donor Prof Dr Ali Riaz on behalf of the university authorities for providing the scholarship in association with the university.

Congratulating the research awardees, Prof ASM Maksud Kamal said, "The university is primarily a place of research. Such research is relevant at present. Through this scholarship, students will be more encouraged to study as well as research."

"Dhaka University authorities are working to this end so that at least 30 percent of the students get research opportunities at the MSS level," he added.
