Health Minister Dr Samanta Lal Sen has expressed his desire to reorganise the country's health sector, extending its reach from urban to rural areas.

“I have served people throughout my life and I aspire to continue the commitment. I assure you that I am capable,” he said this while addressing a function held at the Sheikh Hasina National Institute of Burn and Plastic Surgery, in Dhaka on Thursday.

Sheikh Hasina Nat'l Burn Institute arranged a function to accord a warm reception to the health minister of the new government. Sen was the coordinator of the institute.

On 11 January 2024, Sen was appointed Minister of Health and Family Welfare replacing Dr Zahid Maleque by Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and spoke against corruption after taking office.

Sen said he wants to visit all hospitals across the country to earn firsthand reports on the health sector. “Then I want to start restricting the country’s health sector,” he said.

Seeking cooperation from all corners to make his efforts successful, Sen said, “I am a person who came here after providing medical services at village level. I promise, I will be able to meet the goal if everyone supports me. However, I need some time to start my work.”
