A Bangladesh Cricket Board official said on Wednesday that they are not ready to go for a revenue sharing model at the moment in the Bangladesh Premier League, the country’s lone franchise-based T20 League.
The BCB official made the statement after Comilla Victorians owner Nafisa Kamal told media that she will not continue in the BPL unless revenue is shared.
“The revenue sharing is said on the basis of different models. They are using it as references and we, from the beginning, said that we want to do BPL under our circumstances and a sustainable BPL. Sustainable BPL is not only for the cricket board, it’s all about the franchises,” BCB’s Chief Executive Officer Nizamuddin Chowdhury told reporters during a programme.
“The references that they are talking about in those competitions the franchise fees are very high and their financial structure is very high ... .We are not going into that model and it won’t be sustainable in terms of franchise fees and other things and financial factors that contribute to this decision,” he further said.
“Our model is not compatible with other franchise tournaments and we do the BPL as per our model and market and we stick to the previous stand that is we are not going for revenue sharing and we cannot think of it under the present state to sustain and continue in this BPL.
“If we go out of it in that case it will be difficult to address the matter at the same time if we sit with the franchise we will make them understand what model we are following and what others are doing,” he said.
“We are confident that they (franchise) can come out from their position (of quitting BPL) if we can sit with them and talk,” he said.
Nizamuddin also said that they can work out revenue sharing if the franchises are willing to follow those models.
“Of course, if the franchises are ready to follow that model to which they are referring we can work out on that (revenue sharing),” he said.
