Foolproof security measures ensured ahead of Bishwa Ijtema: IGP

The police department has undertaken comprehensive security measures to prevent any untoward incidents ahead of the Bishwa Ijtema to be held on the bank of the Turag River in Tongi of Gazipur.
Inspector General of Police (IGP) Chowdhury Abdullah Al-Mamun briefed reporters following a meeting with senior officers of the police and intelligence agencies as well as leaders of Tabligh Jamaat at the Police headquarters in Dhaka on Wednesday.
The first phase of the Bishwa Ijtema is set to begin from 2 February to 4 February while the second phase is from 9 February to 11 February.
The police and members of different intelligence agencies will be deployed at all strategic points in and around the Ijtema ground so that the devotees from home and abroad can perform the rituals of the Ijtema peacefully, said the IGP.
Furthermore, the bomb disposal unit, dog squad and river police will be on high alert to deal with any possible incidents.
Additionally, air patrolling will be conducted to enhance the overall security, he added.
