‘Export incentives on the cards for leather industry’

Industries Minister Nurul Majid Mahmud Humayun on Sunday said that the government is taking initiatives to provide export incentives in leather industry like garments sector.

The minister made the comments as he took charge as the industries minister for the second term at the Industries Ministry conference room in the capital, said an official press release.

“I want to work for the country, for the people of the country. I would like to repay the responsibility entrusted to me by the Prime Minister,” said the minister.

In order to achieve self-sufficiency in the production of fertiliser, he said, initiatives are being taken to set up a modern fertilizer factory in the place of the old fertilizer factory in Ashuganj and a new fertiliser factory in Bhola.

“According to the instructions of the Prime Minister, we have adopted the action plan by prioritising these issues," he added.

He said Industries Ministry wants to modernise the sugar mills and turn them into profitable enterprises.

A salt institute will be set up in Cox’s Bazar for the development of salt industry, he added.
