The ruling Awami League bagged the highest 65% of votes cast in the just concluded 12th parliamentary election.
The independent candidates, meanwhile, grabbed the second highest of 24%, and the Jatiya Party secured the third spot receiving 3% of the total votes cast.
The country’s 41.8% of voters cast their votes in the 7 January national polls.
According to the voting results declared by the Election Commission (EC), out of the results of 298 constituencies, the AL sailed to victory in 222 seats.
All AL winners bagged a total of 3,00,21,200 votes, while the AL defeated candidates got 25,02,118.
Meanwhile, all AL candidates obtained a total of 3,25,23,318 votes in Sunday’s election.
The Jatiya Party sailed to victory in only 11 seats this time, much lower than those in the 2018 election.
The winners of the JaPa bagged a total of 9,43,511 votes, and the party’s losers got 7,62,342 votes. With this count, all JaPa candidates bagged a total of 17,05,853 votes in the just concluded national polls.
The independent candidates added festivity to the 12th national parliamentary polls, grabbing a total of 1,21,70,893 votes across the country.
The 62 independent winners bagged 50,71,359 votes, while the defeated independents got 70,99,534 votes.
In the 11th parliamentary election in 2018, the AL had secured victory in 268 seats pocketing 88.67% of the total votes cast. With bagging 7.33% of the votes, JaPa sailed to victory in 22 seats, and with 2% of the votes cast, the BNP could secure victory in only 6 seats.
Earlier, in the 10th parliamentary election in 2014, the Awami League sailed victory across 234 seats securing 72.14% of the votes cast. With 7% of the votes, the JaPa got the win in 34 seats and became the key opposition party in parliament.
