Supporters of incumbent lawmaker Mahmud Hasan Ripon from Gaibandha-5 constituency have allegedly attacked Saghata Upazila Parishad Chairman Jahangir Kabir just after the JS Polls.

Jubo League's Gaibandha District Unit President Jahangir Kabir is the nephew of late Deputy Speaker Fazle Rabbi Mia.

There is an allegation that, on the instruction of Mahmud Hasan Ripon, who became victorious in the general election from Gaibandha-5 on January 7, the cadres led by Mosharraf Hossain Sweet carried out the attack in the Haat Bharotkhali area of Saghata upazila on Monday.

Chairman Jahangir has been severely injured on his legs and hands.

Jahangir Kabir, chairman of Saghata Upazila Parishad, was the chief election agent of Farzana Rabbi Bubli.

Farzana Rabbi Bubli, daughter of Fazle Rabbi Mia, was an independent candidate for Gaibandha-5 constituency.

Efforts are underway to take him to Dhaka by helicopter, as Jahangir's condition is critical. However, the activists in Ripon are reportedly not allowing the injured Jahangir Kabir to be taken to Dhaka for better treatment at Gaibandha Sadar Hospital.
