AK Azad, industrialist and independent candidate secured victory against Awami league-backed candidate Shamim Haque from Faridpur-3 seat in the 12th parliamentary election.

Azad won the election with a big margin of 69,009 votes.  He garnered 1,34,098 votes while his nearest contestant Shamin  received 75,089 votes in the election.
