BNP Standing Committee Member Abdul Moyeen Khan has said that the countrymen have boycotted the 12th parliamentary election that ended amid the low voter turnout across the country on Sunday.
“Like the BNP, the Awami League men also knew that their candidates had already secured victory in the election. People have lost their interest in voting in the dummy election because of the certainty of the victory of the Awami League candidates,” he said.
Soon after the end of the election, the senior BNP leader expressed his instant reaction while talking to reporters at his residence in the Gulshan area in Dhaka this afternoon.
Claiming that the people have boycotted the election in response to the BNP’s call, Moeen Khan said the government has staged a drama in the name of the election while the countrymen unmasked the dishonest plan of the government at home and abroad by boycotting the polls.
Citing an oblique reference to the voter-less national election held on January 5, 2014 void of voters, he said the polling centres across the country were seen empty of voters.
BNP believes in democracy and thus the party will continue its movement along with the people to restore democracy in the country, he said.
